Pride and Prejudice (The BBC Production, 1995)
A masterfully created portrait of human civility, nobility, and beauty. Watch today, and buy a copy on disc to ensure access into the future.
There are a number of productions of Austen’s novel. The one I’m recommending is the one that you might call “the only one” — the 1995, six-episode television production by the BBC featuring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. Peruse the comments under any version of the trailer at YouTube and you'll see the unanimity of opinion to the effect that this particular production of Jane Austen's novel is by far the greatest that has ever been made, from any angle you might want to look at it. If you're old school enough — or old soul enough — to know what humanity is and you enjoy witnessing realistic examples of beauty and nobility that are now gatekept from younger generations, buy a copy of this mini-series now, in case it ever disappears from your streaming service. It might be okay to be at the mercy of streaming services for unimportant shite, but not for this. This is important.
